Oliena Sky Trail rules 2025

art. 1 Organization

The Committee, on October 11/12, 2025, organizes:

  • V-KARABIDDA – 5 km 980 D+
  • CORRASI TRAIL – 17 km 1250 D+
  • HUSIDORE SKYTRAIL – 24 km 1700 D+
  • ULTRA SKY SUPRAMONTE – 50 km 3500 D+

art. 2 The Race

Foot races, Trail Running in a natural environment, on the trails of the Supramonte, starting and finishing in the municipality of Oliena (NU).

art. 3 Participation

These races are open to all men and women who are at least 16 years old at the time of registration, whether federation members or not.
Registrations will not be accepted from athletes serving doping bans in any discipline.
The participant limit is:

500 athletes total for all distances of the "OLIENA SKY TRAIL"

art. 4 Self-Sufficiency

The races are based on semi-food self-sufficiency. Aid stations will be supplied with drinking water and food to supplement personal supplies.
No plastic cups will be available at aid stations. Athletes must carry their own personal cup or container suitable for drinking. Each runner must ensure they have the minimum required water when leaving each aid station, sufficient to reach the next. Personal assistance is forbidden outside authorized areas (aid stations). It is forbidden to be accompanied on the course by anyone not officially registered.

art. 5 Registration Conditions

This race includes sections up to 1400 m altitude, with potentially very difficult conditions (night, wind, cold, rain). No mountaineering difficulties are foreseen, though some short stretches are classified by CAI as “expert hikers” (EE). Proper training and true personal autonomy are essential. There are no specific restrictions for entering the OLIENA SKY TRAIL, but for the Ultra it is strongly recommended to have already completed other long trails (>40 km). A valid medical certificate for competitive athletics, recognized in the country of residence, is mandatory for registration validation.
The certificate must be uploaded during online registration, validated by the agency in charge of registration and timing. Without it, participation is not allowed. No certificates or registrations will be accepted on race day.

art. 6 Registration Procedure

Registration is only possible online, by completing the specific form in full no later than 8/10/2025. Payment must be made at the same time via online credit card service. Once payment is confirmed and the medical certificate submitted, registration will be confirmed in the organization’s database.
Registrations close on 8/10/2025 unless extended.
The entry fee includes all services described in these regulations, the race package, finish-line buffet, meal, assistance, race refreshments, return transport to Oliena base, and showers at the finish. It does not include accommodation and meals on Friday and Saturday night.

art. 7 Acceptance of Rules and Race Ethics

Participation in the "OLIENA SKY TRAIL" implies full acceptance of these regulations and of the race ethics, published by the organization and available at www.olienaskytrail.it

art. 8 Entry Fee Refunds

Athletes already registered but injured before the race are entitled to a 50% refund upon providing valid medical documentation.
IN CASE OF CANCELLATION DUE TO HEALTH RESTRICTIONS FOR COVID-19, THE FULL AMOUNT WILL BE REFUNDED MINUS 10% FOR ADMINISTRATION AND SERVICE COSTS.
NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN IF THE EVENT IS CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS PREVENTING THE RACE, BUT THE ENTRY WILL BE VALID FOR THE NEXT EDITION.

art. 9 Mandatory Equipment ULTRA (checks on course)

By registering, each runner commits to carry all mandatory equipment listed below throughout the race, under penalty of disqualification or time penalty. Random checks may be carried out during the race and immediately after the finish.
N.B. The area immediately after the finish line will be fenced off as a "closed park". Until leaving that area, athletes may be subject to equipment checks.

  • Elastic adhesive band (min. 80cm x 5cm)
  • Waterproof jacket with membrane (Gore-Tex or similar) suitable for mountain weather
  • Personal cup

Strongly recommended:

  • Spare clothes in case of cold weather

Poles, if used, must be carried for the entire race.

Mandatory Equipment V-KARABIDDA (checks on course)

  • Personal cup
  • Thermal blanket (elastic band recommended)

art. 10 Bib Numbers

Each bib is handed personally to the competitor upon presentation of photo ID. The bib must be worn on chest or abdomen, always fully visible, above all clothing, never on the backpack. Before the start, all runners must pass through the closed start zone gate for check-in. At each checkpoint and at the finish, runners must ensure they are recorded. Missing registration may trigger search operations, with related costs charged to the runner. The bib grants access to shuttles, aid stations, medical and rest areas, showers (if available).

art. 11 Safety and Medical Assistance

Each water station serves as a rescue point, connected via radio or phone with race HQ. Ambulances, mountain and cave rescue, civil protection, and doctors will be present.
Rescue posts provide assistance to anyone in danger, with organizational or partner resources. Official doctors may stop unfit athletes. Rescuers may evacuate runners by any means, including helicopter. Related costs fall on the rescued runner under current law. A runner calling for medical help accepts their authority and agrees to comply with their decisions.

art. 12 Checkpoints and Aid Stations

All runners are recorded at checkpoints or water points. Only bibbed athletes may access aid stations. The Road Book will list precise water supply points. Additional “flying checkpoints” will be placed in undisclosed locations.

art. 13 Time Limits and Cut-Offs

The maximum time for the Ultra Sky Supramonte is 12.5 hours. Cut-off times at checkpoints will be listed in the Road Book. Runners must leave checkpoints before the cut-off to continue. Otherwise, they are disqualified and bib removed. Continuing unofficially is at personal risk.
The organization may suspend, delay, reroute, or change cut-offs in case of bad weather or safety concerns.

N.B. Final cut-offs will be published about one month before the event.
N.B. Sweepers, as part of the race organization, may stop any runner at any time, even outside official cut-offs.

art. 14 Withdrawals and Returns

Runners withdrawing must reach the nearest checkpoint, declare withdrawal, and be recorded. The organization will arrange return to Oliena base. If withdrawal is not communicated and a search begins, related costs will be charged to the runner.

art. 15 Penalties – Disqualifications

Course marshals may check equipment and rule compliance. Missing even one mandatory item means immediate disqualification. Infractions confirmed by video after the race may also lead to disqualification. The jury may disqualify for serious violations, including:

● Bib worn improperly.
● Bib exchange.
● Skipping a checkpoint.
● Missing equipment.
● Use of transport.
● Leaving a checkpoint after cut-off.
● Doping or refusing anti-doping test.
● Failure to assist another runner in distress.
● Unauthorized outside assistance.
● Abandoning material or littering.
● Running with unregistered companions.
● Environmental damage.
● Insults or threats to staff/volunteers.
● Refusing medical check.
● Course cutting.

art. 16 Complaints

Only written complaints will be accepted within 30 minutes after provisional results posting, with a €50 deposit.

art. 17 Jury

The jury consists of:

● Race director
● Safety coordinator
● Head of medical team
● Heads of control posts concerned

Other competent persons may be appointed by the committee president.
The jury decides promptly on disputes or disqualifications. Decisions are final.

art. 18 Route Changes – Race Cancellation

The organization may change the course, aid or rescue points at any time without notice. In case of severe weather (storms, heavy rain/snow, thunderstorms), the start may be delayed. Beyond a certain limit set by the Race Director, the race will be canceled.

art. 18 bis Road Book

The updated Road Book will be available on the organization’s website. Runners are invited to download and print it. It contains practical information such as checkpoint closure times, course description, and coordinates. Updates will be published online. No printed copies will be delivered with the bibs.

art. 19 Insurance

The organization provides civil liability insurance for the race period. Participation is under each runner’s own responsibility. By registering online, runners tacitly accept these regulations and waive any claim against the organizers.

art. 20 Rankings and Awards

Only athletes finishing in Oliena within the time limits are ranked. No cash prizes. All finishers receive a medal. Separate men’s and women’s rankings will be published.
The top 3 men and top 3 women of each race will be awarded.

art. 21 Image Rights

Each competitor expressly waives image rights during the race and any claim against the organization or its partners for use of their image.
